Bulbous jar with a lightly conical neck and a small standfoot. The handle is pretty straight up. While the base color is beige, the decoration is shaped in a deep blue. There are two banderoles. The upper around the neck, the other around the body. Ornaments as flower motives, grapes and tendrils.

Description

Bulbous jar with a lightly conical neck and a small standfoot. The handle is pretty straight up. While the base color is beige, the decoration is shaped in a deep blue. There are two banderoles. The upper around the neck, the other around the body. Ornaments as a kind of flower motives are on the free space of the neck. The tape around the body shows blue grapes and tendrils in between. The color stripe underneath is decorated with fish. Jar underneath and standfoot unglazed. The upper bandarole shows also black fish on a blue ground. The handle is glazed in blue.
Fish was an important part oft he food in the North of China. Since the Han-periods they are symbols for happiness and abundance. (HV)
