Description
Wine Container
This vessel, a wine container with a small neck is a grave find from Han Dynasty. The shaping is modeled similar to bronze vessels and completely painted in different shades of grey. That means it was firstly fired as ceramic under a „reduced atmosphere“ (oxygen deprivation), and afterwards cold painted. The vascular body shows minor traces of painting. The darker shoulder area and the lower part were also designed. The bottom side is rough and untreated. People of the Han Dynasty liked it to drink wine and enjoyed numerous types of wine as reported in old sources. [1] This piece is a good example also for other items which were recreated according to the household of a deceased one. (HV)
